Emergency Comfort Care

We understand that braces and appliances can sometimes feel pokey, shift around, or just don’t sit right. It can be hard to focus on your day when something in your mouth is bothering you.

At Jump Smile Orthodontics, we offer Emergency Comfort Visits for our patients within ~2 business days, depending on triage and appointment availability. Whether it’s braces, clear aligners, expanders, or other special appliances, we assess urgent concerns promptly and gently.

For non-urgent issues, such as a loose band that is destabilized but not causing discomfort, we usually schedule a short check within a few days and plan any full repairs within 1-2 weeks.

To help us triage efficiently, please send clear photos and as much detail or history as possible when reaching out. This allows us to understand the situation and provide the right care more quickly.

Don’t forget to check some of our at-home patient tips: brace tips, loose poking wire, using orthodontic wax, how to trim your aligners

A Quick Note to Parents & Teens

The truth is: orthodontic emergencies are multifactorial. They can happen not from anything “wrong”. Our office will always reassess to try to identify any potential causes. Here is a few example of common causes:

🍽️ Biting on hard, crunchy or chunky foods (e.g. nuts, fried chicken skin, corn on the hob)

😬 Subconscious clenching or grinding, especially at night

🦷 Teeth moving faster or slower than expected, changing how wires and brackets sit

🤏 Chewing more on one side

🎯 Accidental knocks while eating, brushing, or playing sports

👄 Changes in habits or routines (travel, stress, illness, etc.)

We believe prevention is the best approach for a successful treatment. Patient has more control than they think!

  • Adhere to diet restrictions

  • Attend all scheduled adjustment appointments and minimize rescheduling

  • Monitoring daily for any breakages, detachments, or loose parts and report it immediately with photos

  • It may be recommended to consider custom-fitted mouth guard if the patient play rigorous sports
